Why did you choose to do Amplify Trading’s Summer Programme?

One of the reasons is that the Amplify Trading Summer Programme is sponsored by Morgan Stanley. This was very important to me having just completed an Industrial placement at Morgan Stanley. Impressed by the culture of the firm, I knew that Amplify Trading might have a similarly diverse and inclusive culture.

I also know that by the end of the program I would be able to achieve a level 6 Diploma in Trading and Financial Analysis from The London Institute of Banking and Finance.

What is the biggest highlight of the course for you?

My biggest highlight of the balance between the technical knowledge of trading and financial analysis that I learn through the morning briefings, theory and daily simulation training and exposure to the vast network within and beyond Amplify Trading.

How has the course met or exceeded your expectations?

This course exceeded my expectations by the amount of practical simulations and interactions that were in the program. Through this course, I am able to listen and read news and try my best in understanding the market and economic implication it has.

I was able to learn technical and soft skills that are transferable in my current analyst role at Morgan Stanley.

How likely are you to recommend the course to a friend?

I am very likely to recommend the course. After the program, a lot of students looking for summer internships have asked me about my experience during the 4-week course and the benefits of enrolling.

I believe that this program is very diverse and inclusive. We were students from different parts of the world, from different backgrounds and disciplines of study. The enriched the discussions and group excises we did due to the diversity of thought.

Last, but certainly not least, I learnt how to gather data in the different simulations I did. This is a helpful skill for any students looking to work in financial services.

Is there anything you didn’t expect to either be taught or gain on the programme?

I didn’t expect to get practical exposure to the industry. I came out of the program more confident in my technical skills. I didn’t expect to find myself actively using the resources that we used during the program. This is one of the many good outcomes I had through the program. I am now able to follow news stories that affect the market and have a basic understanding of the implications in the financial industry

How has Amplify Trading helped in your career development and prepare you for your role at Morgan Stanley?

What Amplify Trading helped me gain was a different perspective. I had already done my industrial placement in Morgan Stanley. What Amplify Trading helped me achieve was gaining a holistic view of the firm and the industry alone. It is very easy to get siloed in a firm of this capacity. I am back in Morgan Stanley now and I think the Amplify Trading has helped prepare me better approach my time here. I am using the transferable skills I learnt.

Did you find you had more clarity on what role in finance you wanted to pursue, after completing the internship?

It has helped me to understand better my strengths and weaknesses in which areas of finance that best suits me. I am also to identify the areas I am passionate about and find the overlap within.

How has the experience at Amplify Trading helped with your applications?

Having the CV and cover letter session helped me understand how to write them in a way that showcases best my skills and experiences that make me suitable for the role I am applying for.

Also, Anthony’s daily briefings were invaluable. I am able to maintain and broaden my commercial awareness.
